Cantorial Soloists

Nicki photoNicki Cohen

Nicki Cohen is Professor of Music Therapy and Voice at Texas Woman's University. In her spare time, she likes to listen to music, read, do yoga, and grow African Violets. She returned to Jewish practice after a 30-year hiatus, and felt immediately accepted by the congregants and rabbi at Congregation Kol Ami. Nicki has directed the CKA high holiday choir, and recently wrote a Sabbath service that is used regularly at CKA. She is married to Bruce Bond, who is a poet, and they have two cats, Lucy and Doodle. Lucy is definitely Jewish, but Nicki is not so certain about Doodle.

Susan photoSusan Colin

Susan is an award-winning songwriter and service leader.  Her newest CD, Every Day, is a collection of contemporary songs in English and Hebrew that express the spiritual journey of Jewish adults. A recording artist since the age of 18, her musical background extends across a variety of styles including choral, classical, pop, jazz, and liturgical music. These varied influences aer apparent in her elegant writing and the lush producation of her three CDs: Every Day, Shabbat Favorites, and Prayer of the Heart.  www.SusanColin.com

Susan’s music has been broadcast on National Public Radio stations, Hospice Healing Radio, and numerous internet radio programs. Her composition "Y'varech'cha" (Priestly Benediction) is included in the URJ Transcontinental Music Shabbat Anthology IV. Susan is a guest artist-in-residence and soloist for worship and adult education programs for synagogues and churches around the nation. Susan is also the founder and director of the Flower Mound Coffeehouse, a live music, non-profit venue featuring an eclectic variety of local and nationally known musicians.

Victoria photoVictoria Milner

Victoria has been a member of Congregation Kol Ami since late 2000. Her musical contributions started with singing in the choir for the High Holy Days in 2001. She has always enjoyed singing, and in fact used to perform in coffee houses during the 70’s. When our former song leader for family services needed a break, Victoria was asked to substitute and she has been singing ever since. She has been leading the music for family services for about four years now and love to engage the children in learning the music of the Shabbat service. She has also composed original works like "Shamor v'Zachor" and "The Mitzvah Song" (with Robin Dennis), which are used at our family services.

Ilene Redwood

Ilene is a teacher of elementary education, both religious and secular, with 23 years of experience. Ilene has been a member of our congregation since we were 40+ families strong and lay-led. She started leading services several years ago when the usual leader needed a break. Ilene was one of the few who could read Hebrew, and who also knew the prayers and tunes so she was encouraged to help out. Ilene was raised in a Jewish home and attended Hebrew school four days a week, as well as Friday night and most Saturday morning services. She enjoys worshipping through song and music and will begin expanding her repertoire by studying voice this Fall.

Becca Sigman

Rebecca is new to CKA, but enjoys being a part of everything. She teaches 3rd grade Hebrew at Kol Ami as well as tutors students Hebrew privately. Rebecca has sung on and off for several years at Temple Beth El in Fort Worth. She is very passionate about music and believes that music is the key to unlocking the soul. Rebecca is a sophomore at the University of North Texas and majors in Music Education. She hopes to become a cantor one day.
