B'nai Mitzvah

Currently CKA celebrates between 10 and 15 B'nai Mitzvah events each year. Every child is considered B'nai Mitzvah upon attaining the age of 13. The celebration of B'nai Mitzvah at CKA, however, requires each candidate to achieve four objectives:

  • Serve as worship leader of the congregation ("Sheliach Tzibur")
  • Serve as reader for the Torah ("Baal Korei")
  • Offer an interpretation of the Torah portion for the assembled congregation ("Darshan")
  • Complete an approved service project on behalf of the candidate's congregation, school, community, or nation ("Mitzvah Project")
