Jew U

Sunday mornings 11-11:45 AM. This year we will be learning everything from God to nuts. Programs scheduled include "Opinionated: A Spiritual and Intellectual History of Kibitzing and Commentary" and "Evil Eyes and Good Signs: Jewish Folk Spirituality." Come to one session, or come to them all. Jew U is ideal for anyone who who loves learning. Open attendance.

Torah'n'Tefillah

Every Shabbat morning (except when we have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah - 8-12 times a year), we hold T 'n T, an informal and interactive worship service and Torah study. We are focusing on Midrash during the Summer of 2010.

Adult Education upcoming for 2011-2012:

It is time to start planning your Jewish education for the coming fall. Consider taking these upcoming CKA Adult Education classes:

Adventures in Chasidut: The Philosophy and Inspiration of the Chasidic Masters: Rabbi Jeff Zeff will be our leader for this introduction to the profoundities of the Tanya, the great treatise on the soul. Ten sessions on Sunday evenings starting this Fall.

The Way of Prayer: Feel lost in Jewish worship? Long for a prayer life but don't know how? Join Rabbi Dennis for an eight session exploration of prayer and the siddur. Grow in worship competancy while you cultivate your personal piety. Thursday evenings, beginning in Oct.

Attention-Deficit History Bookclub: Join us at 9:45AM on Sundays during religious school. Participants will read books (some Jewish, some not). No book will be more than 250 pages long! 4th Sunday of every month, off grounds from CKA. Cost: $25 + the cost of your coffee and nosh.

Sukkot Retreat: Experience our inside-out holiday under the stars and beside the campfire at Lake Murray OK. Families and individuals welcome. Oct. 15-17.

In Defense of Judaism: Consider reasons to be Jewish in a world full of so many brand-name faiths and -isms. Consider the wit, wisdom and why of Jewish identity. Thursday evening starting in February.

English 4900: Saul, David, and Solomon: Early Israelite Monarchy in History and Tradition. This course, offered at the University of North Texas in Denton, will provide a historical/literary overview of King David and the kings around him. Through the reading of texts in translation, we will exploring the ideological, literary, and social aspects of I and II Samuel. (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, Spring 2012 semester at UNT). See below for more information. Adults over 65 are permitted to audit courses at Texas state universities free of charge. Non-traditional students wishing to audit the class can enroll by filling out a Audit Form. UNT Audit forms are available through Rabbi Geoff. Rabbi Geoff will refer the student to the academic department offering the class to determine space availability and request permission. If approved, the department will provide the individual with the necessary signatures. The form should then be taken to Student Accounting in the Eagle Student Services Center to complete the payment process.
